Absolute Series
Silk screen on digital print, 23"x34", (edition of 2 each), 2013
Printed while at residence the Anderson Ranch, Aspen, Colorado
The Absolute World Towers are iconic to the landscape of Mississauga, Canada. The recurring use of the yellow dot and spheres hint at the yellow pin of Google maps, the sale sticker, and eventually a sense of playful navigation.
Titles (of the individual prints) such as Absolute Beyonce, Absolute Curvy, and Double Absolute refer to the voluptuousness of the form of the Absolute Towers and its visual impact. Absolute Beyonce is a reflection of the empowerment of the pop-star Beyonce as a cultural icon. Her energy and presence are strong and memorable. Likewise, the ultra architecture of this tower renders it iconic and unforgettable.
These works were printed while at residence at the Anderson Ranch Arts Center, Aspen, CO (master printer Josh Dannin), and were later part of a show, 01191/1192 at the Art Gallery of Mississauga. The original photos in this series are by Tom Arban.
