Neon Laundry

Painted drop cloths and wood, dimensions variable, 2015
Cascade Neighborhood, Seattle, WA, USA

Neon Laundry is a nod to the historic laundries of the Cascade Neighborhood while using the contemporary building blocks, billboards, and other geometric shapes found in the surrounding cityscape of Seattle as prompts to generate a series of colored objects. The work consists of layers of fabric that wrap and drape each of the four signature plinths along Denny Way. The color of each fabric is a specific tone of yellow-green determined by the distance between each plinth. These color fields express color as a function of distance and scale and provide a contrast with the complex structures of their surroundings.

Neon Laundry was part of ALL RISE, a series of performances and temporary art installations organized for a city block at the location of Seattle City Light’s future Denny Substation in the Cascade neighborhood.
